The purpose of this creative project is to demonstrate my understanding of
the craft of literary fiction. “Sabina” is intended to reflect an interest in contemporary
fiction and a personal interest in narratives which speak to the role of family background
and geographic location, and the way in which these factors determine the trajectory
of one’s life. This work is also concerned with gender and issues of masculinity
as it occurs between brothers in times of war. “Sabina” is a narrative invested in the development
of men in the tradition of the bildungsroman, and in this mode is intended to
address issues of masculinity among families and in society at large.
