ABSTRACT
DEVELOPMENT OF AN END-OF-LIFE CARE/DECISION
PAMPHLET IN THE ICU

Nurses were surveyed about information desired in an end-of-life pamphlet
specific to the needs of ICU patients. Nurses determined information about physical
changes, pain control, definition of terms, and resources were key components in a
pamphlet. Fifty percent of nurse participants did not feel comfortable discussing end-oflife
care with patients. Current literature on the topic, The Peaceful End-of-Life Theory,
and nurse surveys were used to develop an end-of-life pamphlet.
