Interactive 3D storytelling: enhancing the storytelling experience through the integration of video game technology

Through the production of an interactive 3D storybook, this project will demonstrate the extent to which the core functionality of video game development software can enhance the storytelling experience by simultaneously engaging the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic perceptual systems. The interactive 3D storybook, based on Josh Selig’s Red & Yellow’s Noisy Night, was produced by combining video game development software applications with Unreal Development Kit (UDK), a freely available game engine for independent game development. The interactive 3D storybook includes a navigation system that enables the user to freely navigate the story’s environment within a 3D space. Additionally, audio components, as well as interactive elements, were integrated, further enhancing the level of interactivity.
