The Karlo site (LAS-7): an exploration of resource depression in Northeastern California

In archaeological contexts, resource depression is a result of the intensification of local resources. This thesis looks at the archaeofaunal material from the Karlo site (LAS-7) in northeastern California to examine environmental change and a decline in foraging efficiency. Foraging theory and prey models are used to test hypotheses about the variations in the proportional abundances of prey species found in the faunal materials excavated at the Karlo Site. Results show some evidence of declines in foraging efficiency at the site through time, though further research is needed to illuminate the pattern of animal use in prehistoric northeastern California.
